The recent announcement marks a significant step in the company’s effort to expand its AI assistant’s capabilities beyond chat-based queries.
According to a report by The Verge, the newly introduced “record mode” allows users to transcribe meetings, brainstorming sessions, and solo reflections using their voice.
The tool, available to ChatGPT Team users, Enterprise, or Edu plans, automatically generates structured notes, timestamps, and action items based on the conversation, creating a searchable and organised summary of recorded content.
Alongside record mode, OpenAI has also added support for cloud platforms including Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, SharePoint, and OneDrive.
Users can now query their connected files for specific information, such as company revenue data or travel history and ChatGPT will retrieve and summarise the relevant information with proper citations.
Is your data safe?
The AI promises to honour existing user-level permissions to protect sensitive content.
“ChatGPT will structure and clearly present the data, and respect your organisation’s existing permissions on the user level, from those documents,” OpenAI said in a statement.
So yes, it does access the data you choose to share, but only temporarily and with your permission. But once the session ends or you disconnect, the access ends.
The Team subscription starts at $25 (Sh. 3,231.06) per user per month with a minimum of two users on an annual plan.
Since the launch of ChatGPT Enterprise in 2023, the company has attracted major corporate clients including Canva, Block, PwC, and Estée Lauder Companies.
OpenAI launched the ChatGPT Team in January 2024 as a more accessible solution for small and mid-sized teams.
OpenAI’s business model is now running head-to-head with tech giants like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and rising players like Anthropic, all vying for a piece of what analysts predict will be a $1 trillion generative AI market by 2032.
